Held instrument
Regulation (EU) 2026/405
The detergents regulation is the second held instrument to put a digital product passport on a date. It is the closest model there is for what a passport outside batteries looks like in law.
- Before placing a detergent or end user surfactant on the market, the manufacturer must create a digital product passport for that product.Art. 21(1) · 23 September 2029In law
- The passport must be connected through an indelible data carrier on the label or packaging to a persistent unique product identifier, and must stay available for ten years from the date the product is placed on the market, including if the operator that created it ceases activity in the Union.Art. 21(2) and Art. 21(4) · 23 September 2029In law
- The unique product identifier must be entered in the registry. Customs checks that an imported product has a passport run automatically through the registry's interconnection with the EU Customs Single Window, from the application date or from when that interconnection is operational, whichever is later.Art. 24 and Art. 25(4) · 23 September 2029In law
- Surfactants, and surfactants contained in detergents, must meet the biodegradability requirements set out in Part A of Annex I.Art. 4(1) · 23 September 2029In law
